Darum geht’s:
Sam ist groß und schlaksig, zu dünn und hat einen zu großen Mund. Genau wie in den Liebesromanen, die er bevorzugt liest, wünscht er sich, seinen Traumprinzen zu treffen, und hat sich nach einer schlimmen Beziehung fest vorgenommen, bis dahin alle Frösche zu ignorieren.
Ian hat bisher krampfhaft versucht, doch Frauen interessant zu finden, mit Männern gab es bisher kurze Affären, aber keine Beziehungen. Das ist völlig neu für ihn. Und Sam ist außerdem so gar nicht sein Typ.
So fand ich’s:
Der Titel und das Cover des Buches haben mich nicht wirklich angelockt, und wenn mir die anderen Bücher von Anne Tenino bisher nicht so gut gefallen hätten, dann hätte ich wohl nie zu diesem hier gegriffen. Doch dann hätte ich wieder eines von ihren Gute-Laune-Büchern verpasst. Bisher war es immer so, dass die Stories, die sie erzählt, nicht unbedingt revolutionär andersartig sind. Es sind ganz normale Menschen mit Fehlern und Stärken, die auch nicht unbedingt durch extrem dramatische Situationen gehen müssen, sondern deren Lebens- und Liebesgeschichten einfach so interessant und unterhaltsam erzählt werden, dass man am liebsten in einem Rutsch bis zum Ende weiter lesen würde. Und nicht nur beim Lesen hat man gute Laune, sondern das wirkt noch eine ganze Weile nach.
Sam ist nicht unbedingt der tolle Hecht und da er das weiß, wundert es ihn gar nicht, dass er bei Ian abblitzt. Der ist nämlich schon eine Augenweide und wird von allen dauernd angeflirtet. Auf eine Beziehung ist Ian nicht aus, denn er hat es bisher weitgehend für sich behalten, dass er auf Männer steht und die eine Beziehung mit einer Alibi-Freundin ist schon vor langer Zeit gescheitert. Als sich Sam und Ian bei einer Party gemeinsamer Freund wieder treffen, ist Sam klar, dass er außer eventuell einem One-Night-Stand nichts von Ian zu erwarten hat. Und Ian wird direkt von seinem Cousin Jurgen gebeten, Sam in Ruhe zu lassen und ihn nicht nach einer kurzen Affäre abzuservieren, wie er das sonst tut.
Wie sie es anstellen, trotzdem ein Paar zu werden, verfolgt man als Leser mit Interesse und oft genug auch mit einem Schmunzeln. Dazu gehört auch, dass sich die beiden in den Laken und auch anderswo ausgiebig wälzen, es gibt so einige heiße Sexszenen. Da mir Sams Freund Nik in seiner Rolle als Kummerkasten, Liebesratgeber und Bändiger des grummeligen Jurgen sehr gut gefallen hat, habe ich mich über die Entdeckung der zwei Kurzgeschichten (“Whitetail Rock” und “The Fix”) gefreut, die Nik und Jurgen als Hauptdarsteller haben.

He’s cultivated the necessary fortitude to say “no” to the next Mr. Wrong, no matter how hot, exciting, and/or erotic-novel-worthy he may be.

Ian’s a new man. He’s pain-free, has escaped the job he hated and the family who stifled him, and is now—possibly—ready to dip his toe into the sea of relationships. He’s going to be cautious, though, maybe start with someone who knows the score and isn’t looking for anything too complicated. Someone with experience and simple needs that largely revolve around the bedroom.

Sam’s convinced that Ian is no one’s Mr. Right. Ian’s sure that Sam isn’t his type. They can’t both be wrong . . . can they?
